PRESS: iPhone 7 sales in Russia twice as high as of previous model

MOSCOW, Nov 25 (PRIME) -- Russian retailers sold twice as many iPhone 7 and 7 Plus smartphones during a month after the start of sales than the previous models, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, a year ago, business daily Vedomosti reported Friday, citing several market sources.

Companies sold slightly less than 92,000 iPhone 7 and 7 Plus devices in October out of some 2.5 million smartphones sold in total in the month, according to a report of a partner company of several handset retailers.

Apple’s new flagships accounted for 3.7% of the local market in units and 3.5% in money. The bestseller was the iPhone 7 with 128 gigabytes of memory with almost 35,000 sold devices.

Sergei Tikhonov, a spokesperson for retailer Svyaznoy, told the daily the Phone 7 has become one of the most popular smartphones in the chain in October. The gadget has better technological features and is offered in black colors.

Demand for the iPhone 7 Plus is explained by its size, because a rising number of Russians prefer large-screen devices, which combine functions of a smartphone and a tablet, Tikhonov said.
